Bio

Shameka is a first-year Graduate Student at Georgia State University pursuing a Master of Arts in African American Studies with a Minor in Community Empowerment and Engagment. For the last couple of years, she has worked in the community and other nonprofit organizations to advocate and increase the efforts of educational opportunities for middle school,High school and College students. Shameka became involved in addressing issues of educational inequalities at an early age by working at a Community nonprofit organization called United Neighbors. The organization worked with youth living in low-income communities and provided them with educational resources such as after school tutoring, computer technology training, and school supplies to help them start their school year off correctly. She also has three years of experience as an early childhood education teacher and one year of experience in counseling and Human Services. Her devotion to a public service career has provided her with the skill set in counseling, mentoring, and general support to empower children and families.
